About
Once upon a time, Joe Toth introduced me to sailing, and this site was originally registered to organize groups to rent sailboats together.
Recently, Joe has expressed to me that he does not believe that I deserve to have equal rights. This came as a shock. I can almost comprehend bigotry through ignorance directed at some generic unknown other. I can’t understand being friends with someone and suddenly revealing that you fundamentally believe your “friend” isn’t worth standing up for when others come to discriminate and take away rights.
The only logical conclusion to be made is that he was never truly my friend.
You can’t hold on to some kind of twisted moral code that classifies your friends as second-class citizens, and expect to go to lunch together after that as if its no bigger an argument than “chocolate vs. strawberry.”
An angry mob came along to strip me of equal rights. You – normally a logical and thoughtful person – cannot choose to side with the angry mob, cannot cast your lot with them and vote away my equality, and continue on like nothing has changed.
Such a betrayal is unforgivable.
Even if I were as forgiving as the Catholic Church, the prerequisite for forgiveness is understanding what you have done wrong and being truly remorseful. I don’t expect that to happen.
And now, the damage is done, and it wouldn’t be enough. The vote passed. A simple apology is so far beyond insufficient that there are no words for the inadequacy.
So, this site will now be a platform for the getting back the rights you took away.
